What is our swimwear made from?
There are a number of materials and technologies used to create comfortable and durable swimwear. Our bikinis and one-piece swimsuits are made from fabric that contains 82% Polyester and 18% Spandex.
Spandex is also know as elastane, or Lycra (a registered brand name for a polyurethane-based synthetic fibre). This material has an excellent elasticity, so the swimwear made from Lycra is very stretchable and retains its shape well even when its wet. It also dries quickly, however it does not hold colour very well.
Polyester is an excellent material for swimwear, it is chlorine and UV resistant and keeps colour 2-3 longer than Lycra. It feels soft, holds shape and dries pretty quickly too.
The combination of these two fibres make our swimwear durable, soft and comfortable. To help your swimwear last longer, make sure you look well after it. Rinse your swimsuit in fresh warm water after swimming in the sea or a swimming pool as soon as possible, then roll it up in a towel and gently squeeze. Afterwords let it dry naturally until it goes back to its original shape. It is not advisable to wring, or wash swimwear in the washing machine.
